What do I need to know?
If you do not reside in the European Union you are entitled to a VAT refund on your purchases when you depart from EU countries within the legal period. Several conditions apply in Europe since each country follows its own set of Tax Free rules.
The amount spend may vary in each country, both in the minimum amount of the purchase and the refund percentage. The detailed information for each country can be found here. Below we have outlined tips to enhance your shopping while travelling and simplify your VAT refund experience at the end.
Where does my epay Tax Free journey begin?
Continue with your shopping
Follow the same process for each purchase, and remember to:
1. Request the epay Tax Free form before making the payment, because the standard receipt is not valid for a VAT refund.
2. save the epay Tax Free forms you are given in each EU country you visit, until you depart.
How do I get my VAT refund at the airport?
Stamp your epay Tax Free forms at your last destination
At the airport, before checking in, look for a Customs office or validation kiosks. You will have to present there all the forms collected during your trip, which may be from different EU countries. You may also be asked to show the goods you have purchased. Your epay Tax Free forms must be stamped at your last stop – not at a transit station.
Once all your forms have been checked and validated, you can continue with the check-in and fly home.
Receive your VAT refund
At the airport: Before or after passing through airport security, you can go to a our refund points and present the stamped documents you were given in step 1 above, and you will be able to receive your VAT Refund.
Credit card/Alipay: Receive your VAT refund in one step by scanning the QR code on your form or by entering your form number in our “Refund onto credit car/Alipay” section of the website.
Should I be prepared for setbacks?
No time to go to the Tax Free module at the airport
Your flight may depart at times when Tax Free modules are closed or you may not arrive in time to complete the whole process. There is an alternative! If your form has been digitally validated, scan the QR code on your form to provide us with a credit card/Alipay account. If your form has been physically stamped by Customs, you can put all your forms inside the official epay Tax Free envelope, providing your contact details to allow for the VAT refund to be processed. Drop the prepaid postage envelope in a post box (either in Europe or your country).
Get your VAT refund sorted before going to the airport
If you don’t want to risk getting your VAT refund at the last minute, you can make an advance refund at City Cash Tax Free Centers, which are centrally located in main European cities. You can view all these points and the information you need to complete the advance refund collection process correctly on our website.
